PORSCHE 911
‘I’ve done lots of things in my life, but owning the Targa is one of the best. It’s my job to look after it: to make sure it’s used and not just polished and sat still. It’s good on fuel, fast enough to be enjoyable, robust, comfortable, engaging, and it lets you feel the road on every corner. I love feeling the power it has, the sound of the engine and the speed of it. It truly is a classic which was ahead of its time.’
Richard bought his beautiful black Porsche 911 back in 2009 after being made redundant and then becoming self-employed. He made a promise to himself that if he doubled his redundancy pay-out, he’d buy his poster car: an air-cooled 911.
He’s spent a great deal of time working on the 911 to make it perfect, with a target to ‘get her as good as any 30+ year old car can be whilst still being able to take her out in all types of weather’.
Richard’s Porsche 911 was made on 17/12/1987, which is coincidentally four days before he passed his driving test. Feeling like this was serendipitous, and considering he owned a toy car Targa as a young boy, he told us it’s ‘as though it were for made for me, in a way.’
