Gifts ideas for car lovers

Article

Christmas is fast approaching and by now you’ve probably at least started to think about the gifts you’ll be buying for your nearest and dearest. Chances are, if you’re reading this you probably love cars, or at least know someone who does. If that’s the case, stick with us.

We’ve curated an extra special list of Christmas gift ideas featuring books, art and more, from people who you may possibly be familiar with.

Please note that due to the personalised nature of many of these gifts, and the current situation regarding post in the UK,  it may not be possible to receive all of these gifts in time for Christmas. We still wanted to highlight them, however, as we think that they are fantastic gifts for car-lovers, no matter the occasion.

Books

Do you know an avid auto restorer? A long-drive lover? How about a friend who revels in a rally?

Heritage customers Richard Jones and SW Barratt have both written fascinating books that cover these things and more.

For anyone who is interested in classic car restoration, SW Barratt’s Automotive Restorers Guide is a must-have. Part Mercedes memoir, part catalogue of useful contacts, his guide covers everything you need to know about classic car restoration from an engine rebuild to having a key cut. The book can be purchased either as an eBook or a paperback through the website, or via Amazon.

If the motoring of yesteryear is more appealing, Richard Jones’ three books may just be perfect. In Every Picture Tells a Story- The 1958 Monaco Grand Prix, we are taken on a journey back in time to look at what made that particular race so pivotal in the history of motorsport. Through the Lanes and into the Forests gives a personal glimpse into British rallying in the 1960s with a unique collection of colour images from the time, and Putting Wales, Carmarthenshire and Llandovery on the Map takes a look at historic driving routes in Wales, and the cartography (map-making) from the area. Richard’s books can be purchased directly from him by emailing [email protected].

Art and photography

Artist Ian Cook (POPBANGCOLOUR) is a long-time friend and partner of Heritage, and you may recognise his name from our car stories campaign or his #ContinuousCarDrawing streams though the 2020 lockdowns.

Ian’s art makes a fantastic gift for car lovers, no matter whether they’re an owner or simply an enthusiast. Commissions are closed for this side of Christmas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t book a bespoke car portrait in for the new year. If you are after a more immediate gift, Ian’s shop has over 400 prints, t-shirts, mugs, and even a coffee table book that all feature his unique art style and some truly iconic vehicles.

For those who are interested in photography, we’d recommend looking at Lara Platman’s work. Lara may be better known to Heritage customers from our Women in Motorsport series, however, by day she is a photojournalist and all-round motorsport enthusiast. Lara’s Through the Night gives a glimpse into the night time magic of rallying, as shot by her on film. The book features several of her favourite photographs from races including 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Nürburgring 24-hour race, Monte Carlo and more.

For people whose classic car is their true pride and joy, a car cover from Specialised Covers is a great gift to make sure their most prized possession stays in the best condition when it is stored. They make tailored, made-to-measure covers for a wide variety of cars.

The company was established in the UK and everything is still British made to this day, over 40 years later. There will likely be a wait for a bespoke cover as they are custom made, however, Specialised Covers also have a reselling scheme where second-hand covers can be picked up for a lower cost with no compromise on quality.

Heritage customers also receive a 10% discount with Specialised Covers. You can either enquire via our website, or contact them directly quoting HERITAGE10% when you request your quote.

We hope our gift guide has given you some inspiration and provided you with some options that are a little more personal and out of the ordinary.

Whatever you’re doing this festive season, we hope you have a good one.

From all of us at Heritage, Merry Christmas!
