FAQs on European Cover- Car Insurance

At Heritage Classic Car Insurance we offer European Cover as standard on our specialist policies. But what does this mean for you the customer?

When planning to take a trip in your classic, it’s essential to ensure you have the correct cover. Should the worse happen, you want to know that you and your classic will be protected.

The majority of car insurance policies do not automatically or freely extend to comprehensive cover for driving abroad. Which means you’ll only receive third party  cover at best and won’t be insured for theft or even damage.  This can mean costly extras for many car owners looking to explore the scenic roads throughout Europe.

Heritage Insurance include European Cover as standard

Here at Heritage Car Insurance we’ve been insuring classics since 1965, and we’re proud to include comprehensive foreign use as a standard feature of our policies, at no extra cost. So wherever you’re in Europe you’re planning on travelling to, as a customer of Heritage you know you’re covered for up to 90 days in any one insurance year.

Unlike many insurers who only cover you for third party insurance when driving in Europe, Heritage customers get full comprehensive cover as standard which means your covered for third party, fire and theft when travelling in Europe for up to 90 days.

Hassle free European Cover

The last thing you want to worry about when planning a trip, is sorting out your insurance documents and paying out for the additional cover. Here at Heritage Insurance our European Cover is hassle free. It couldn’t be simpler to arrange, just let your Personal Client Manager know where you’re off to, when you’re going and how long you’ll be away for. There’s no waiting for extra documentation from us and we won’t charge you any extra. Heritage customers get European Cover included as standard as part of their policy.

Can I get European Breakdown Cover for a classic car?

As well as offering fully comprehensive European Cover as a standard feature of our policies, Heritage Insurance also offer European Breakdown Cover so that you can have peace of mind, knowing that should your classic breakdown we’ve got you covered.

Our European Breakdown Cover is only £34.50 and this covers you for multiple trips throughout the year, for up to 90 days when driving in Europe.

Many insurance companies who offer European Breakdown Cover don’t cater for classic or specialist vehicles, but as a specialist classic car insurer this isn’t a problem.

What does European Breakdown include?

European Breakdown can vary greatly, and often people find they aren’t covered for something at the worst possible moment – when you’re stranded on the side of a road far from home. This is why Heritage Insurance provide European Breakdown that ensures you’re not left in the lurch, for as little as £34.50 you’ll receive:

  • English-speaking advisors available 24/7, 365 days a year
  • comprehensive network of European offices with multilingual staff
  • continuation of journey, alternative transport or overnight accommodation arranged for driver and passengers
  • repatriation arranged if the vehicle cannot be repaired locally

With European Breakdown Cover am I entitled to a replacement car?

With Heritage Insurance European Breakdown Cover, your classic car breaking down doesn’t have to mean the end to your holiday. If you vehicle can’t be repaired or recovered within eight hours, then the breakdown assistance team will choose the best option to ensure you and your classic are looked after.

You’ll either be taken to your holiday destination, given a hire car or you’ll be put up in a bed and breakfast. Then your classic will be repaired at a garage. If your vehicle can’t be repaired then it’ll be brought back to your home address or to a chosen repairer at the end of your holiday.
