Classics Collector – Jay Kay

In the latest of our series looking at famous classic car collectors, it’s time for one of the most well-known British collectors out there, Jay Kay.

You may remember the lead singer from the band Jamiroquai, who were big in the 1990s and brought us hits such as Virtual Insanity and Cosmic Girl.

We hear the band has a new album out too, called Automaton.

About Jay Kay

Jay Kay, otherwise known as Jason Luis Cheetham, was born in Stretford, Greater Manchester, in December 1969.

After getting into music at high school, he later formed Jamiroquai who went on to sell over thirty million albums between 1992 and 2006.

He has appeared in the Sunday Times Rich List and is believed to be worth around £40 million.

He has been a frequent Top Gear guest and holds the record for the fastest lap in the (now retired) Chevrolet Lacetti at 1:45.83.

The Cars

Jay Kay’s classic cars over the years have been mouth-watering. We have it that he’s owned about 100, with many appearing in the band’s music videos and at classic car events throughout the country over the years.

One of his songs, ‘Black Devil Car’ is a tribute to his black Ferrari Enzo. The Enzo suffered damage to the windows after his infamous altercation with a hotel chef.

Among Jay’s collection are, or at some point have been, the following:

  • BMW 2002 Bauer Cabriolet
  • Porsche 911 2.7 RS
  • Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster
  • Aston Martin DB6 Mark 1 Volante auto
  • Lamborghini Miura SV
  • Abarth Fiat 1000
  • Maserati A6G

Jay Kay has also owned a one-off 1965 Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake and was recently spotted in a £1m lime green Ferrari LeFerrari.
