It was in the late eighties we saw TVR creating a sports car for the buying market. With the introduction of the S1 and its Ford Cologne V6 engine for the early models then in 1988 the 2.9 ltr with the launch of the S2 model being more powerful.
The TVR Cerbera was unveiled in 1994 at the Birmingham Motor Show. It was two years later that the first car hit UK roads. A first under Peter Wheelers ownership was a 2+2 coupe with an all new TVR AJP8 4.2 Litre engine.
TVR’s Chimaera was the new less savage model with a Grand Touring image for the more discerning buyer. Although TVR decided to fit a stonking V8 engine in the Chimera resulting in stunning performance from a luxury roadster.
With the birth of the 1990’s we saw TVR go back to the drawing board with their new creation. The trick was producing a short chassis sports car producing in excess of 230 bhp capable of speeds over 150 mph. They of course did and it was called the TVR Griffiths.
Back in the eighties Maserati had sadly dropped the ball with cars that lacked in any style what so ever. In fact it wasn’t until the late nineties that Ferrari got their hands on 50% of the company that things started to improve with Maserati starting once more to make cars that lead in their class.
Aston Martin has always prided themselves on the DB series of fine automobiles. The iconic saviour of Aston Martin was in fact David Brown way back in 1950 when plans were made to start producing the Le Mans prototype known as the DB2.
The Jaguar XK8 made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1996 and was the long awaited replacement for Jaguars XJS model. Using the brand new V8 engine the Jaguar XK8 was said to be a true replacement for the world famous E-Type that was discontinued back in 1975.
The 007 Bond edition gave the public a good look at this all new roadster and right from its launch the retro style soft top sold well as sales spiked while James Bond movie ‘Golden Eye’ hit number one at the box office.
