The classic car season is well and truly rolling for 2017 with weekend events packing the calendar for enthusiasts young and old. Heritage Classic Car Insurance have decided to focus on what is billed as ‘The World’s Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival’ at the famous Silverstone circuit in July 2017 which includes a spectacular weekend of historic racing on the world famous circuit from single seater races through classic GT, Sports and Touring car. Not to mention the Celebrity challenge trophy race with plenty of famous faces behind the wheels of classic cars.
Why not try the Silverstone classics ‘RetroRun’ on Saturday 29th July returning to Silverstone and displaying your classic car in a dedicated area inside the circuit with the rest of the RetroRunners. With the opportunity to drive your classic around the iconic Grand Prix circuit in a revered parade lap.
This year the Adrenaline Zone means you can get involved if you dare, try the lazermaze or the climbing wall or take a ride on the Star Flyer or Booster ride or even try the wipeout course or bungee trampolines, you may need a lie down after all this! If you’re in need of some retail therapy after all that excitement you may choose to indulge yourself at the shopping village with motor memorabilia, clothing and accessories, art and antiques all for sale plus many more.
With classic car clubs being an important part of the weekend why not check out over 100 clubs proudly displaying over ten thousand privately owned classic cars. From Aston Martin to TVR and everything in between will be on show over the weekend.
Live music claims the nights entertainment with a sixties mix on Friday including the famous Bootleg Beatles, Who’s next and the ultimate Jimi Hendrix tribute are you experienced? With Saturday being all eighties with Spandau Ballets Tony Hadley and the Dire Straits experience both on the same night. Enough to rock your retro socks off!
The Live restoration of a Ford Capri 2.8 Injection starts on Friday 28th and the five strong team have just three days to restore this banger into a mint collector’s car with the finished product auctioned on e-Bay with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK. Team leader Fergus Walkinshaw says, “Preparation is key, so we are going to be busy sourcing all the parts and accessories we need in the run up to Silverstone Classic. It’s going to be a great experience and we can’t wait to get started.”
Street car shootout demonstrates a live drag strip race from British hot rods to 4×4 street trucks with many fascinating cars and trucks being debuted at the strip. Old school rivalry is re lived with the World GP Bike Legends bringing back race champions of yesteryear and their magnificent machines of the 80’s and 90’s.
If you need a sit down and trust me you will then the Jet village green is the ideal place to take a load off or even take a seat on the Jet big wheel offering panoramic views of the Silverstone circuit and then perhaps take a relaxing massage for a small fee. As well there is a big screen showing all the track action so you won’t miss a thing.
Calling all Jaguar XJ220 owners, this year a special celebration at Silverstone commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the world famous super car by Jaguar. Silverstone are looking to get together the largest gathering of Jaguar XJ220’s ever paraded with the current record being 20 they want to at least double that at Silverstone classic this weekend.
