Classic Collector – Rowan Atkinson

One of the most recognisable faces in comedy, Rowan Atkinson, is known for his funny films, but one thing he takes very seriously is his collection of beautiful classic cars.

You may associate him with his most famous character, Mr Bean’s classic yellow mini, but Rowan Atkinson has also collected an array of stunning vehicles that are the envy of car enthusiasts like us from around the world.

About Rowan Atkinson

It may surprise you to learn that Rowan Atkinson began his adult life as an academic, studying electrical engineering at Newcastle University and then moving on to pick up his Masters at The Queen’s College in London.

However, it was his comedic genius and not his engineering which soon came to the forefront, as he gained praise from performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on the radio.

He would then go on to star in Not the Nine O’Clock News, Blackadder and Mr Bean on television screens, with a string of box office films alongside this.

The Cars

A self-confessed car obsessive, Atkinson has compiled a stunning collection which includes a 1939 BMW 328. The stylish and aerodynamic German vehicle was designed by Fritz Fielder and is synonymous with racing around that time. The car won races such as the Mille Miglia and performed admirably at the 1939 Le Mans 24 Hour Race.

Many of his characters, such as Johnny English, have become ingrained in British pop culture and so it is only right that British cars play a prominent part in the 62-year-old’s collection.

His Aston Martin DB2 sticks out as a star amongst his collection, with the famous British sports car from the early 1950s being the envy of many collectors. The 2-door, 2-seater coupe is as stylish as it is speedy.

He also owns the following:

  • Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato
  • 1939 BMW 328
  • Acura NSX
  • 1964 Ford Falcon

As well as his classic vehicles, Rowan Atkinson has a number of modern supercars, with a taste for McClarens and Mercedes.
