Are UK classic car events going ahead in 2021?

Article, Blog, News

There seems to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon for classic car enthusiasts in 2021.

As the UK’s vaccination programme rolls out across the country, classic car shows are filling the diary – and rapidly. After the cancellation of many 2020 events, this is welcome news for many.

We’ll be taking a look at a few of the most anticipated classic car events happening this year – although unfortunately, we can’t say for sure if anything is set in stone.

As expected, all events planned for 2021 will have to follow the government health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of all attendants.1

Likewise, it’s important to remember that ticket availability will be affected by ticket rollovers from cancelled 2020 events. This might be something to keep in mind if you’re planning on attending any classic car events this year!

In the name of maximising safety measures, The London Classic Car Show is migrating away from its usual indoor setting at ExCeL London and opting for the outdoor sunshine of Syon Park.

So that the new outdoor venue can go ahead, the event has also been pushed back to warmer months and will take place in June.

Ticket holders can look forward to seeing over 500 classic cars; a mighty collection by any stretch.

According to organisers, these will be displayed in order of their design evolution to showcase the “full spectrum of automotive history” – basically, don’t expect to see a 1957 Ford Thunderbird parked next to a Ford RS200.

A staple of the classic car event calendar, The Classic promises to be a spectacular few days for ticket holders. After all, the cancellation of their 30th anniversary celebration in 2020 means there’s a lot of fun to make up for.

Taking place at the fantastic Silverstone circuit, The Classic will feature live music concerts, vintage funfair rides, a shopping village and – most importantly – a display of over 10,000 classic cars.

Additionally, over 100 car clubs will be in attendance, so there’s plenty of conversation to be had, pictures to be taken and unforgettable memories to be made.

Salon Privé

Where: Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

Safety measures to expect:

The event will follow standard government safety guidelines.

Ticket rollovers and refunds are available (although this may exclude private dining bookings). Read more on their Ticket Terms and Conditions.

As stylish as the name suggests, Salon Privé is a celebration of the finest cars of the classic and modern day. Within a luxurious garden party setting, ticket holders can get dressed up in their best attire – think Ascot-worthy – and wander the grounds of Blenheim Palace perusing the supercars, hypercars and classics. Is there a better way to spend an afternoon?

Despite the mass cancellations of 2020, last year’s Salon Privé still managed to go ahead. A lucky few attended the event, in which the limelight was on the well-deserved Best in Show: a striking 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Zagato Spider.

Being further down the calendar line, it is expected that this year’s September event stands a good chance of going ahead – we hope.

Concours of Elegance

When: 3rd – 5th September

Where: Hampton Court Palace, Surrey

Tickets: www.concoursofelegance.co.uk

Safety measures to expect:

The event will follow standard government safety guidelines.

If you’re looking for a high-brow classic car event this year, the Concours of Elegance might be one to check out.

Much like the beautifully historic setting of the Salon Privé, the Concours of Elegance will take place across a stunning royal backdrop all of its own: Hampton Court Palace. Steeped in history – namely, as the home of Henry VIII – there is no better place to celebrate the history of classic cars.

Once again, attendees can look forward to seeing 60 of the rarest cars from all over the globe – many of which have never been seen in the UK before. And if that doesn’t pique your interest, there is also a two-day driving tour of concours cars, as well as a live auction to take part in (if you have a few million to spare, that is).

Although last year’s show wasn’t able to feature too many cars – expectedly so – it was still a huge success. The Best in Show was awarded to the stunning 1970 Porsche 917K, one of the most famous cars in motorsport history.

For an exquisite experience and a once-in-a-lifetime show, this classic car show is not one to be missed.

The Goodwood Revival Festival

When: 17th – 19th September

Where: Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester

Tickets: www.goodwood.com

Safety measures to expect:

Goodwood are taking a number of Coronavirus safety measures to protect all attendees.

Will tickets be refunded if cancelled due to Coronavirus?

Yes, all terms and conditions are outlined in the Coronavirus Terms of Entry.

As the most celebrated historic car event, Goodwood Revival has earned its place at the top of our list – not that we’re counting.

Since its foundation in 1988, Goodwood Revival has been the only event to be held entirely in period dress. Imagine the scene: a show filled with timeless tweed breeches, cool clam diggers and black biker jackets to boot. What better way to celebrate the heyday of the classic car?

Thanks to the cancellation of the 2020 event, Goodwood Revival 2021 will undoubtedly be doubling down on the wheel-to-wheel racing, exhilarating displays and the truly unforgettable atmosphere.

In all, Goodwood Revival is a chance for classic car lovers all over the country to join together in a congregation of classic car enthusiasm. One thing is for sure: if all goes ahead, this long-awaited event will be among the most exciting classic car celebrations of the year.

Despite the tumultuous cancellations of 2020, we’re (cautiously) looking forward to a summer of classic cars, sunshine and good company – all socially distanced, of course.

With all fingers crossed, we’ll keep our engines running and hopefully see you there.
