YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What counts as a classic military vehicle?

A military vehicle is any type of vehicle encompassing all land combat and transportation vehicles that has been specifically designed for or is used by military forces.

The vehicle must be at least 10 years old to qualify for cover as a classic, and it must have been formally decommissioned.

How old does a driver need to be to qualify for cover?

Most classic car insurers will only accept drivers aged 25 and upward, but in the case of classic military vehicles, drivers aged 21-24 can qualify if they are members of the Military Vehicle Trust.

What is agreed value?

If your vehicle is a total loss, the Agreed Value is the amount an insurer will pay minus your policy excess, if you have agreed value on your policy. For example, if your Agreed Valuation was £12,000 and your excess totalled £1,000, your insurer would pay £11,000.

If you don’t have agreed value on your policy, you will be paid the going market rate at the time of the claim. Heritage offer free agreed value to help you protect the value of your classic car – just ask when you take out your policy.

Am I covered if I use my military vehicle as wedding transport for a friend?

If you want to use your vehicle as wedding transport for a friend and are not charging them, you would be covered and there is no extra charge on your insurance. ‘Hire and reward’, such as paid wedding car hire, requires a different kind of cover.
